President’s Message – March 2025

The block of clay sat there, a dank gray glob in its sealed bag. I am not a ceramicist, I remind myself, so there’s no need for expectations. Just dig in, get my hands dirty and see what happens. My mission was straightforward: to see if I could build some molds to use for kiln-formed […]

Kagan Display in Corvallis month of March

Pacific Northwest Sculptors Association member, Martin Kagan will have a month-long
display of his ceramic sculptured masks and busts starting March 1st in downtown
Corvallis. During the past five years, Kagan’s life-sized busts have migrated from self-
drying clay, fired bisque, and raku to 3D-printed infrastructure that are then layered with oil-
based clay. Coated with acrylic finishes and sometimes adorned with repurposed stands,
jewelry and fabric the figures further invite an imaginative approach to character studies. If you
are in the Corvallis area, be sure and view the 24-foot showcase window sponsored by Footwise
and located at the corner of SW Madison and 3 rd Street. For more information, contact Martin
at martinkaganusa@gmail.com.

Show opportunity at local winery

I am working with Saffron Fields Vineyards to alert artists to a pre-Memorial Day arts weekend (May 17 – 18).  Saffron is a very artsy vineyard with a world-class in-house collection of sculpture, paintings and mixed media art.  The tasting room sits surrounded by Hoichi Kerusu-designed gardens with a wonderful view towards vineyards and the coastal mountains.
