June 22nd, Wednesday Night meeting

This month we will meet one of our more Northern members, Ulrich Pakker.

Ulrich shares, on his website Ulrich Pakker Studios – Stainless Steel Fountains and Sculptures. ”My artistic process creating metal sculptures, fountains and public art begins by visualizing the proposed artwork in as many ways as possible. With public art spaces, different hours and days produce different lighting and changing populations. Will collectors have a bird’s-eye view of the art or will it be a garden focal point? How will climate affect a fountain’s materials? What is the expected longevity of the installation?”

Everything influences me and my process.

See you online, via Zoom.

April 2022 Meeting With Art Wells

Bob Deasy first met Art several years ago in Lawerence, Kansas at a sculpture workshop. His work is amazing. He is very personable and easy to talk to.

Art’s philosophy regarding artwork is, “Fine art is food for the soul, and I strive to create something nourishing.” Art’s marble portraits and figures are considered by his peers to be world class. His works are held in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. His life size marble “Creation of Eve” was on exhibit in the Las Vegas Art Museum for 2 ½ years.

Here is a link to his You Tube channel where you can see some of his works. Art Wells – YouTube

Please be sure to join us for what will be an exciting evening.

Creative Collaborations Virtual Show Entries Close March 15

If you plan to participate in our Creative Collaborations virtual show, please register now. You don’t have to know what you will be creating. We do need to know who’s participating so we can communicate with everyone. If you don’t have a partner, register anyway and we’ll try to match you up. You can partner with several others at once. You can participate in more than one partnership.

The show will be posted to our website by September 1. Work should be completed by mid August. Crossovers between media are encouraged. Mostly, it’s the creative energy generated by collaborations that we’re most interested in seeing.

See show details.

NFTs

Dan Fine
JOIN THE MEETING

Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00pm

Bob Deasy speaks with Dan Fine about the world of crypto, blockchain and how that makes NFTs (non-fungible tokens) possible. We will be exploring the functions of NFTs, and how it will change the future. We will talk about how to get started and how to mint your first NFT, as well as the marketplaces available to list them. It’s also important to have a strategy to promote your work, and where to market them and how others have done so successfully.

Creative Collaborations: Virtual Show Details

Active PNWS members are invited to participate in “Creative Collaborations,” our virtual sculpture show. The show will be visible on our website September 1, 2022.

Both collaborators must register. If you don’t have a partner, indicate that below.

  • You may include more than one partner in your collaboration.
  • You may participate in more than one collaboration.
  • You do not have to know what you will create to register. We want to know who is participating at this point.

We will have an online forum available soon where participants can share their discussions, progress and images as projects develop. This will be visible to all members so everyone can see and enjoy the process.

Similar in theme to “Unmatched Pairs” from our group show in 2019 at the Multnomah Art Gallery, pairs of artists will show a piece demonstrating the power of creative collaboration from concept to completion. Additionally, each paired artist will also display one individual piece adjacent to the collaborative piece to give viewers a broader perspective of the interaction of their creative inspiration. Participants will create one collaborative piece, one individual piece, and one sketch for perspective of their collaboration process. Sketches are optional.

This show has no entry fee. No commissions. Non-juried.  All sales are directly between artist and buyer. Contact Katie Sallos with questions or requests.

CRITICAL DATES:

March 15, 2022        Complete the Show Application Form
August 15, 2022       Submit images for the virtual show
September 1, 2022    Show Launch

PNWS artists must identify themselves using the Show Application Form.  Artists wishing to participate, but who have not found a pairing should also complete the form. The show committee will help match up individual artists.

DETAILS: File format and size requirements will be provided soon.

Best of Show: John Siblik – River Weaving,

Author, critic and curator, Richard Speer was the juror for the exhibit. He shared his observations and discussed his selections. The show included 61 pieces.

“River Weaving,” received the Best of Show award, created by John Siblik, Associate Professor of Art at Northern Illinois University. The environmental installation represents years of evolution from concept to realization. The piece includes 103 elements installed in a quarter mile of river.

As Siblik describes his installation, “The river forms the Warp and the Elements placed in the river form the Weft. Each Element is 6 feet by 3 feet by three feet. The elements are made from Willow canes which often grow along rivers, marshes and wetlands. The original design for River Weaving dates to 1986.”

Other award winners include: First place to Stephanie Robison; Second Place to Gard Jones; and Honorable Mentions for Jessica Bodner and Karen Theisen.
