Ever wanted to try your hand at sculpting something fun and dramatic – and then watch it transformed by fire and smoke? Well, now is your chance with a LIVE RAKU event which will take place at Art in the Pearl, Sept. 5-6, 10am-4pm.
In order to make sure we have an adequate supply of artwork for the RAKU firing, we have 2 mask making opportunities coming up:

These mask making sessions are always a good time! No previous sculpting experience necessary – whether you’re a seasoned hand-builder or brand new to clay, this is all about playing with form and having fun together. Your masks can be human, animal or mythic creature face! We will provide the clay, some basic tools, ideas, and plenty of inspiration. You just bring your hands and your imagination.
The grand finale of this project is the Raku firing on Sept 5-6 at Art in the Pearl, Portland, 10am-4pm. If you are able to attend in person, you can add the glaze before firing and see the whole process.
The public gets to watch the flames and smoke work their magic, and you get to take home a stunning, finished Raku Mask (dare I say masterpiece??).
A donation of $20-$50 is suggested.
