Kick Off 2026 with Fantastical Art and Good Company

🦄 Potluck & Studio Tour at Jonas Hartley’s Studio 🦄

Join the first Pacific Northwest Sculptors Potluck & Studio Tour of 2026 at the studio of Jonas Hartley,

Enjoy an informal gathering of art, conversation, and shared food as Jonas opens his studio and offers a look into his process, materials, and current work.

About the Artist:

Jonas turns recycled paper and cardboard into mythical creatures using paper-mâché, wood armatures, and a lot of tape. His work is playful, detailed, and unexpectedly tough, featuring laser unifoxes, illuminated tentacles, winged cats, unicorns, and other strange and wonderful creatures that feel like they wandered in from another world.  Jonas’ practice explores how meaning, power, fear, and value are constructed—questioning what we decide is “real,” “important,” or “threatening.” Beneath the playful surfaces are reflections on anti-intellectualism, environmental responsibility, mythology, and the absurdity of human systems.

Following a career in design, Jonas has sold his work in several galleries in the Portland area and he has shown in numerous events.  He also teaches workshops.

What to bring:

  • A potluck contribution
  • Your own plates and utensils, if possible (our new green initiative)
  • A non-member friend, if desired

📍 Location: Jonas Hartley’s Studio,310 SW 4th Street, Studio 202, Portland
📅 Date: Saturday, January 17
⏰ Time: 3:00

Excerpt of Artist Statement
Everything is made up. We’ve agreed upon a set of things that we consider real, and those things forms our reality, but it’s all subjective, and filtered through unreliable brains that let us think we’re in control, but in reality we are just flinging along the sliver of a universe we barely comprehend that is observable, predictable, and amazing.
