PNWS will have a big role in the activities this Friday, June 5th at the Hub (aka Theartscentered, aka the old library at 1007 E Mill Plain Blvd) in Vancouver. This will be the last First Friday event for the “Celebration of Sculpture” exhibit and will feature an artist’s talk by Marty Eichinger, at 6 pm, a poem honoring James Lee Hanson by Susan Dingle and sculpture demos by Teri Fahrendorf and Joe Cartino. If you have not yet been able to drop by to take in this exhibit of works by 65 local sculptors this would be a great time to see this remarkable display and honor our fellow sculptors.
The Hub presents a massive 12,000 sq. ft. space that is perfect for viewing sculpture from all angles. it is also set up with circles of chairs that invite you to sit and be with the sculptures for awhile. The center of this space is raised for presentations and will host Marty’s talk followed by a Flamenco troupe while the public takes in the show.
The lobby of the Hub is graced by a large totem wood carving installed as a public art in 1965 by Manuel Izquierdo, one of the founding members of PNWS. Marty will be sharing some of that history for those of us who do not have deep roots.
Plan to join us in this celebration of our chosen artform. The exhibit closes mid June and is open from Tues-Thursday 10 am-6pm.
