PNWS member Maria Wickwire (www.MariaWickwire.com) has an exciting project underway in the rebirth of a loved sculpture. “Anillos” won the People’s Choice Award at Lake Oswego in 2007 and became a part of its onsite collection. However, a vandal smashed the original ceramic creation to many small pieces. The pieces were eventually returned to Maria. She decided to painstakingly put them all back together and recreate the well-loved sculpture, though this time in bronze! Maria’s new version still retains the original message of integration with nature, though now with a new positive message of rebirth and bouncing back after hard times. To honor the sculpture’s history, many of the original cracks are intentionally retained and emphasized using gold for a kintsugi effect within the bronze.
Anillos will be installed at Price Sculpture Forest (www.SculptureForest.org, also a PNWS member) north of Seattle on April 24 as a new featured member of the sculpture park’s permanent collection.
