Ten Small Sculpture Workshops – with beer!

Member Teri Fahrendorf (under her business name, Rain Dragon Studio), held her second-ever small sculpture workshop last weekend, Heart Rattles, with 12 students. (w00t!) She has designed 10 small sculpture workshops for 2026, and the next one is for small whimsical Gnome Sculptures, on February 22nd, with student pick-up prior to St Patrick’s Day.

Teri comes from a long career as a craft beer brewmaster, so she is not a stranger to teaching people. During her 30+ year beer career, Teri hired and/or trained 55 brewers, many of whom went on to famous careers. Teri says she enjoyed teaching “baby brewers,” and now she is having a blast teaching “baby artists.”

It will come as no surprise to learn that Teri is teaching her ten 2026 workshops at a brewery! Indeed, Leikam Brewery, at 5812 E. Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon, has a gorgeous Community Room, and it is perfect for up to 13 students. (Maybe more with additional tables.) Each registration includes 2 beers (and tip), or equivalent, and both adults and teens 13+ are invited to attend.

Teri’s small sculpture technique is clay slab-driven, so most projects will start with rolling out a slab. Teri says she “built 18 studios” as she has created 18 student studio kits, each set up in it’s own “travel cube” so Teri can take her workshops on the road. She is hoping the future brings her new business with in-home private parties, such as birthday, BFF or bachelorette parties, Bat Mitzvahs, family gatherings, etc.

Teri’s 2026 workshops include the afore mentioned Heart Rattles, the current Gnome Sculpture Workshop, followed by Frogs, Roses, Dudes or Demons, Mushrooms, Owl or Pumpkin Rattles, Ghost Luminaries, Banana Slugs or Mezuzahs, and in November, back by popular demand from 2025: Golems! Each workshop will be followed one month later with a one-hour Student Artists Show, open to the public, also held in Leikam Brewery’s Community Room.
