Sunrise With Copper Moon

This piece brings together a current passion of mine, wood carving, with my traditional work in steel.  Copper accents lend a rich warmth to the composition.  The carved mahogany serves as the base for the steel disk.  A copper sun sits atop the carved and flame-treated disk which is raised above the surface of the wood for depth.  The small copper moon sits above and to the right, fucking up the symmetry as part of a bold, but ultimately toothless artistic statement.  Together, the elements try to force us to examine our space in the universe and our interdependence on the the oppressed other.  But they don’t.  They are really just wood and metal.  Pretty though.
