Jewelry
My jewelry, or wearable sculpture, is a direct result of my participation in CollaboratioNZ 2011, the event that changed my art. It all started on a dark and stormy night (we were on the southern edge of a week typhoon system). I was walking through the metals tent, and came across a Canadian artist doing a process called fold-forming on small bits of copper. I instantly saw how I could integrate the process into my current work at the time, and decided to learn as much as I could about it. When I returned home, I came across a couple of books on the subject, and a friend who was a copper roofing specialist gave me small bits of copper scrap for me to get started down that rabbit hole. My results were intriging, but I didn't have enough material to make bigger sculptural pieces...and then my friends said "that would make some nice jewelry"...the proverbial light bulb was lit! The resulting pieces allowed me to integrate materials from my life-long pursuit of beachcombing since early childhood in Venezuela (oil camp brat), and still done throughout my worldwide travels.
