The intent behind my work is to achieve an overall effect of expanded perception through transparency, in a way to postulate on what it might be like if we had the ability to observe inner as well as outer processes without any encumbrances, like X-ray or CT scans allow us to see beyond surface appearances. I then galvanize the surface of each sculpture with a silver or copper finish to unify, protect and accentuate its form.
Due to the porous nature of this wire, all becomes integrated as one, enabling a kind of metaphysical perception of interconnectedness. I have worked principally with this medium for over thirty years and am continually fascinated by its ever-changing qualities of light and transparency; a sense of unity between the artwork and its surrounding space manifests in varied forms as each new work emerges.
