A tribute to PNWS Sculptor Bill Leigh, “Orange Bell” stands in honor of Bills life and work. It is displayed in the outside courtyard at Oregon Society of Artists in Portland, October-December. Bill was a valued member of PNWS as a sculptor and Board Member.
.
A mostly self-taught artist, Bill brought a lifetime of construction skills to work in metal and wood, much of his work in reclaimed materials. As an artist, Bill was always exploring, learning and stretching. He is remembered by artists and friends as a mentor, mentee, and collaborator. The sharer of tools, materials, ideas, and time. The seeker of feedback on work in progress.
Many of his works, both static and kinetic, incorporate the idea of movement,. From figures running or taking flight, squares tumbling, mobiles drifting, and then there are the bells…Always intent on the tone generated by the wind or a gentle swing of the wind catcher…
Bill’s work is widely known around the region through gallery exhibitions and his annual shows at the Clark County Recycled Arts Festival and the Clark County Open Studios tour.
We’re proud to display this beautiful sculpture in the courtyard at Oregon Society of Artists. It’s a wonderful way to honor our friend who we miss dearly.
