The month of August begins with a PNWS presence at the Vancouver Art and Music Festival held in Ester Short Park, downtown Vancouver. Members have signed up to demonstrate their sculptural process for the public at this ALL ART AND MUSIC celebration on August 2nd. The festival is well attended, free and runs from July 31-August 3. check out the website for schedules: http://vancouverartandmusicfestival.com

  • Raku firing. -On August 3rd and 4h, concurrent with the festival, starting at 3 p.m. I and my neighbor Nathan will be raku firing masks just three blocks East of the park at 6th and Broadway. Be sure to stop by and watch the fun and sign up for future  maskmaking workshops.
  • Maskmaking at Leslies. On August 9th, PNWS members are invited to join a maskmaking workshop in Gladstone at Leslie Christ’s house. we will be generating masks  to fire over the Labor Day weekend at Art in the Pearl. Email Leslie to rsvp. leslie@lesliecristart.com
  • Kadence Cooperative Meet up- On Saturday August 23rd at 3 pm, PNWS members are invited to meet at Kadence in Vancouver- 214 E. McLoughlin for a sculpture material swap meet and maskmaking workshop. Dave Frei and Jennifer Corio’s design studio has been transformed into an art collective by host, Nathan LacQuaye. This will be the last opportunity you will have to join the maskamking fun and participate in the public demo firing of masks at Art in the Pearl.
  • Art in the Pearl- Labor Day weekend, August 30, 31 and Sept 1. PNWS has had a presence at this annual event for many years. It is yet another great place to step up and help fulfil our mission to educate the public about what we do and why we do it. If you have yet to consider participating as a demo artist, the Pearl is a great place to step up. We will have our usual booth set up for you to work alongside other members and we will be raku firing masks next door. If you have a mask to fire you may consider signing up for a demo slot while you are there…contact Jessica Storia, Leslie Christ or Andy Kennedy to sign up: Jessica Storia: jessica.storia@gmail.com Leslie Christ: leslie@lesliechristart.com Andy Kennedy: playpurpose@yahoo.com
