PNWS members have had an active role in Art in the Pearl, (Named one of the top 10 Arts and Crafts Festivals in the country) since it’s inception. The Labor Day weekend celebration in the North Park Blocks of Portland gives our members the opportunity to present their studio processes to the public in the covered booth area of the show reserved for demonstrations. Although no work may be sold through the demonstration booths, it is a great way for members to showcase their work, develop contacts or advertise classes. PNWS members can sign up for 3-4 hr. time slots on Saturday, 10am- 6pm, Sunday 10-6 or Monday 10-4. Contact me at brussellford@gmail.com to sign up and get more information.
This year, we hope to engage the public to a greater degree by offering some interactive activities and presenting a Raku firing of work. If you would like to participate in the Raku firing, I will be offering a mask-making session at my studio, 610 E. 19th St. Vancouver Wa. 98663, on the Saturday preceding Labor Day, August 26th from 10-4. $20. will pay for clay and gas. If you plan to participate, your mask will be ready for you to glaze and fire either Saturday or Sunday at Art in the Pearl. You may choose to participate by donating your mask to be glazed and fired at the Pearl event or have your mask glazed and fired for you.
Our goal is to engage as many of our members as we can and have a diverse sampling. It is a great time to celebrate the arts and connect with the public.
