Saturday, Nov 21st at 1pm will be the artist’s talks for the PNWS group show: Coalescence at the CAVE gallery 108 E Evergreen blvd. Vancouver, WA. These tend to run long. So, it’s likely that 3 – 5pm potluck time, at Russ Ford’s house, should work great. The gallery and Russ’ house 610 E 19th street, are only about ten blocks apart in Vancouver.
Russ Ford – Artist’s Statement:

These days I struggle to find a healthy balance between supporting the arts through commitments to community organizations and the rewards of spending time exploring my own art path in the studio. At odds is my belief that art as a tool of communication is essential for healthy societal growth and nothing produced in the studio, no matter how inspired, can communicate without exposure. This realization has led me to seek outreach to a greater community through my relationship with Pacific Northwest Sculptors. The rewards have of the been immeasurable.
My artwork has covered an array of media, both two and three-dimensional. I currently work almost exclusively telling stories with figurative ceramic sculpture. I love working with the primal substances of the earth; shaping, reorganizing and surrendering to the elemental structures that make up our natural world. Clay is a seductive medium: it allows, demands and humbles.
Inspiration comes to me through a continuous investment in my relationship with nature. Spending time alone in the wilderness of both urban and rural spaces, gives me an insight into the mystery and wonder of our living world. These experiences inspire and inform my work.
