It’s getting to be prep time for Art in the Pearl! And it’s easy to get involved. This is one of the premier art events in the Northwest, with close to 50,000 visitors coming to Portland’s Park Blocks over Labor Day weekend.
As in the past, we’re honored to be invited to demonstrate sculpture LIVE for the enthusiastic crowd. Raku ceramic firing, orchestrated by Russ Ford and Nathan Laquaye, is always a star. Ceramic masks are made in advance and bisque fired, then the makers glaze their pieces on site and see the final firing.
Says Nat Partna, one of the organizers for PNWS, “It’s a little different this year as we’re hosting mask-making workshops at the Vancouver Art & Music Festival in August. Then those masks will come down to Portland in September to be part of Art in the Park.” Information about mask-making at the Vancouver Arts and Music Festival is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uoKqtgcI8GLMKW4ss4yx3BOGXkFzuQXZlqwRwA9MQdw/edit?usp=sharing)

There are more upcoming opportunities to make masks to be fired at AitP before September. See details here: https://pnwsculptors.org/two-
We are excited for members of the community and PNWS to come together to create masks, and experience the community and joy of making through raku firing!
