The PNWS 2023 group show at Runyan Gallery in the Newport Visual Arts Center (NVAC) “Into the Depths” officially closed July 29th. The show opened Friday June 2, with an evening reception, and 54 exciting and beautiful sculptures created by 31 PNWS members for the 2-month show.
We are proud of the high caliber of work, and the dedicated participation exhibited by our members in the Newport show. The NVAC gallery director, Chasse Davidson, expressed her admiration and gratitude for the friendly professionalism and organization of our Pacific Northwest Sculptors group. Kudos go out to all who participated, and the many who volunteered their assistance for this inspiring Newport show!
We gave a shout out to the volunteers on the show committee, the art transport crew and show set up crew in the June newsletter. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Kennedy and Shelly Durica-Laiche for all the social media posts during the exhibit. New members and patrons are finding us through social media.
Kudos as well to the exhibiting artists that showed up in a timely fashion to collect their work on July 31st, as well as the crew that came to wrap and pack 19 pieces for transport via van back to Portland. Thanks Andy Kennedy, Jonas Hartley, Russ Ford, Wade Womack, Teri Fahrendorf, Sue Quast, Katie Sallos, Susan Schimmelfining, Bill Leigh and Terri Elioff. Bill and Terri also drove the work in the van back to Joe Highfill’s and unloaded it for artists to pick up. Many thanks to the OG PNWS member Joe Highfill for providing us a staging area!
Many of our PNWS members took advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase their sculpture, while gaining valuable tools for responding to open art calls and navigating the full gallery experience.
PNWS group shows are great, but to further advance both individual and group opportunities, we must also explore other ways to share and collaborate with one another, because the single greatest asset of our organization is our inspiring membership. Each one of us has a unique set of knowledge, imagination, skills, and experiences. We can all accomplish so much more by sharing and collaborating, especially when working within the highly competitive world of art.
