I am a contemporary surreal folk ceramic sculptor. I often use slabs though I also employ coil and pinch. I carve the surface to create imaginary scenes.

Bea Garth CE Sculpture

These pieces are ceramic sculpture mostly from when I was in California plus a few from when I worked in Oregon. I am finally getting electric hook ups installed and then can finally fire new pieces. My sculpture tends to be geometric--however not always. I often make them from slabs which I join together. At other times I use pinch and coil techniques to create the form. My art is influenced by ancient art from around the world --its what I knew as a child since my parents were archaeologists originally. For me it is a way to ground and heal myself. I often paint a dark slip and carve through using my imaginary figures to create multi sided scenes. My work explores what we do and don't say along with many bends and even extra appendages if it seems "right."
