It happened again! Another wonderful year with Pacific NW Sculptors demonstrating their talents amidst dancers, artists and musicians in downtown Vancouver, Washington.
A big shout out to Jessica Stroia and Andy Kennedy for organizing the demo details, and to additional artists who joined the effort: Ami Davis, Jason Peaslee, Jerry Woodbury, Bob Deasy, Nat Partna and Leslie Crist.
Public demos are a great way to remind the public that sculpture exists, is accessible, and that PNWS provides support and help for current and future sculptors.
The two-day raku firing part of the PNWS demos was moved to an alternative location due to a burning ban. We fired (and “smoked”) over 30 masks at a private parking lot just down the street from the festival.
As usual, maskmaking participants were excited to be involved in this transformational aspect of the process.
Raku master Nathan LacQuaye and his assistant Russ Ford were so grateful for the opportunity to bring this artistic adventure to life in front of an audience. It is a terrific way to show the public a bit of the community of artists involved in bringing a sculptural work to completion.
